Communications and Marketing Officer – £16.36ph plus Hol Pay – Central London

Start 1st February 2023 to the end of July 2023 initially

 

We are recruiting for an experienced Communications and Marketing Administrator to join one of London’s leading Universities.

 

MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB

To provide the department with operational delivery of communications and marketing activities which are on brand, on budget and on time and ensure an on-going process of improvement through measurement and analytics.

 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Communications

  • Update and develop the department’s website, taking into account web standards, CMA-compliance, Search Engine Optimisation and accessibility needs. This will include writing, editing and uploading content, and selecting and sizing images and multimedia.
  • Prepare a range of press releases and news items.
  • Drafting newsletters using Mailchimp.
  • Support the Communications Team with social media management and monitoring.
  • Proof reading a range of content, including print and digital.
  • Assist the Communications Team with regular reporting to internal stakeholders.      

Events

  • Support with event co-ordination, including workshops, conferences, book launches and receptions, seminars and public engagement events. This will include assisting with invitations and registration; event logistics; event marketing; briefing and liaising with presenters, delegates and suppliers; and evaluation and reporting.
  • Undertake thorough post-event administration including uploading content to relevant platforms.
  • Communicate through clear verbal and written correspondence with speakers, staff, attendees and service providers.
  • Be responsible for collating information for event promotion.
  • Take responsibility for small projects within large scale events.
  • Maintain accurate financial records for small events (e.g. one-off seminars/workshops), or small projects within large scale events.
  • Source specialist best value for money events materials and/or equipment and to make recommendations on suppliers based on research.
  • Attend and work on events organised by the team, as requested by the Senior Communications and Marketing Manager.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Working knowledge of Content Management Systems (e.g. Drupal).
  • Experience of creating and managing news and media content.
  • Experience of producing effective print and online communications e.g. press releases, newsletters, webpages, brochures etc.
  • Knowledge of social media platforms and how they can be used to communicate and engage with different audiences.
  • Experience working in a large complex organisation in a variety of sectors.
  • Experience of events administration work.
  • Experience of managing/organising meetings, small events or projects.
  • Experience in editing SharePoint.
  • Experience of using web-based software to send and monitor e-newsletters (e.g. Mail Chimp, DotMailer).
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (particularly Word, Excel and PowerPoint), Internet and email.
  • Strong communication skills (written and oral) including spelling, grammar and editing.
  • Highly developed organisational and prioritisation skills, and the ability to work efficiently to tight deadlines, on a range of concurrent projects, whilst maintaining attention to detail.
  • The ability to work as part of a team and listening skills when dealing with internal customers and colleagues.
  • Excellent eye for detail.
  • A willingness to undertake routine tasks.
  • Enthusiasm, with a willingness to learn new skills and a commitment to continuous professional development.
