Communications Officer – £20.13ph plus Hol Pay – Central London

Start Immediately to the end of April 2023 initially

Hybrid role with four days remote and Thursdays office based in Kings Cross

 

We are recruiting for an experienced Communications Officer to join one of London’s leading Universities. The role will assist in designing and developing on-going print and web-based communications materials to support the widening participation and student success strategies.


MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Collaborate with colleagues to co-ordinate delivery of communications campaigns which support goals.
  • Preparation of communications materials (e.g. brochures, posters, leaflets etc.).
  • Identifying appropriate subject matter for use in videos.
  • Working with colleagues in the Communications team to create a joined-up communications approach to support widening participation and student success strategies.
  • Liaison with Communications colleagues to develop communications materials for audiences including past participants, parents and current students.
  • Ensuring that imagery and copy is on-brand, consistent and appropriate for target audiences.
  • Providing relevant copy and content for student recruitment communication materials (e.g. print and online prospectuses etc.).
  • Liaison with colleagues relating to the delivery of communications campaigns, ensuring that schedules are maintained.
  • Liaison with internal and external suppliers of print and design services in order to ensure that content is produced on time and to an appropriate standard.
  • Understanding, and ensuring compliance with, advice issued by the Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) with regard to the accuracy and transparency of student recruitment communications.
  • Management and development of a communications programme to maintain contact with past participants of the projects.
  • Management and development of a communications programme to support current students from underrepresented groups.
  • Conduct focus groups and interviews with prospective and current students from underrepresented groups.
  • Ensure compliance with legislation and best practice in relation to matters including data protection and copyright in respect of collecting and publishing multimedia content.

 

PERSON SPECIFICATION

  • Experience working in publications production.
  • A knowledge of print processes and technologies.
  • High level of proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite.
  • Experience of producing and editing effective content for web and print.
  • Familiarity with Adobe Acrobat for the production of PDF files for both proofing and print output.
  • Familiarity with the use of content management systems (CMS) eg. Drupal, for website production and management and/or social media management software.
  • An understanding of the impact of Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) advice and guidance on student recruitment communications.
  • Relevant employment experience in publications production and administrative work within a higher education environment.
  • Experience using MS Dynamics, DotDigital or other similar systems to produce and send out newsletters.
  • Excellent organisational skills in context of leading and delivering co-ordinated communications output.
  • The ability to prioritise a varied workload and respond flexibly and positively to changes in technologies, work practices and the demands of different projects.
  • The ability to work on own initiative, manage time effectively and work to a number of concurrent deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills when dealing with academic staff, external suppliers and departmental colleagues.
  • A high level of accuracy and meticulous attention to detail.
  • Good command of the English language to enable the postholder to edit and correct copy for clarity of expression as well as for grammatical and spelling errors
